Kristina Gjems

Kristina is interested in our connection with gravity, both as support and resistance. We explore this through some standing meditation and work with an invisible partner. We  also warm up our joints and nourish our fire through doing the Wei chi together.

Kristina revisits her shared practice looking at how we soften and ‘oil’ our joints through movement, with special attention given to our feet and ankles. There is a focus on the seasons, while doing the Wei Chi (fire qigong) during the end of the water-season (winter) and the beginning of the season of wood (spring), we reflect on how the elements support and nourish each other.

Kristina revisits the Qigong practice of grounding, centering and connecting.  We will then brought this awareness into spontaneous movement and ‘the ancient section’ of the short form.

Kristina’s main focus in this class is on attending to all those elements (‘Internals’) that make up our being, and giving space for each to express themselves as they would want.  And having enjoyed such freedom, the constituent parts of our being may share greater harmony of expression during those times when involved in a collaborative venture such as playing the Form.

Through a range of movements, Kristina brings attention to the connectivity within, particularly that relating to our skeletal system with especial focus on the spine, and the connection between our fingers and shoulders, and our toes and  pelvis.

Kristina guides us through a lying-down meditation by which we can relax, ground and energise our bodies and minds.  She follows this with qi gong exercises and the tian xiou, drawing attention to the qualities of the elements that can be experienced in the balance between stillness and movement.

Kristina demonstrates movements for loosening and softening the body and then takes us through two Qi Gong forms: Wei Chi and Ba Duan Jin (yin form);  and ‘The Seven Steps of Buddha’ – a sequence of movements from the Tai Chi Long Form. Throughout, Kristina offers images and visualisations to help us connect with, and keep attentive to, the movements.

Unfortunately, the recording missed the first few minutes of Kristina’s class.  The video will automatically repeat; to stop the video, click on the pause button or close the page.
